Hitman 3 Developer Isn't Stepping Away From The Franchise Anytime Soon-April 2024
Apr 3, 2025 12:47 AM

Hitman developer IO Interactive has indicated that it is not done with the franchise yet, teasing ongoing DLC support for Hitman 3 and a potential sequel.

Hitman 3 launched earlier this month, with strong launch sales allowing IO Interactive to recoup all development costs in just a few days. This is the biggest launch the studio has experienced since going independent, and the largest for the series. With that in mind, executive producer Forest Swartout Large says there's more to come for Hitman.

"We're continuously working on Hitman so we are already looking to the future," said Large in an interview with The Gamer, when asked about the potential for another Hitman sequel.

Right now, the studio is focused on supporting Hitman 3 with content, which Large says might not be in the form of new maps. Instead, IO Interactive will potentially remix maps from across the rebooted trilogy, meaning more Escalation missions, limited-time hits, and more.

"We're more looking at using existing locations and reimagining them, twisting them," explained Large. "And this time around, we can use the whole trilogy. We can look back at Hitman 2016 maps, Hitman 2 maps--we have all the locations."

IO Interactive is also hiring more staff as it transitions to a multi-project studio. A big reason for that is the studio's recently announced James Bond project, which IO already envisions as a whole new trilogy of games.
