The launch of XCOM 2 is just hours away, and we now know precisely when it will unlock on Steam.
As laid out in the map above, 2K has split the world into three different regions for the purposes of this release. Those in North and South America get their hands on the game at 9:01 PM PST on February 4 / 12:01 AM EST on February 5. Europe, Africa, and much of the rest of the world gets access on February 4 at 11:01 PM GMT. And places like Australia, New Zealand, China, and Japan get it on February 4 at 6:01 PM GMT (meaning it's out now).
Provided you've already preordered the game on Steam, you can begin preloading it now so that it's ready to go once it unlocks. You still have time to preorder it if you wish; doing so entitles you to the Resistance Warrior pack, which adds new outfits, headgear, war paint, as well as a "survivor of the old war" in the barracks.
XCOM 2 reviews began arriving earlier this week. GameSpot's review awarded it a 9, saying it's "mathematical, emotional, and thoughtful all at once. It's exhilarating, even in the face of failure. It's compelling, even though we often lose. Victory is the goal, but that's just an afterthought here--it's the complex journey that counts."
Mods will be supported right out of the gate, with three--made by the team responsible for the acclaimed Long War mod for XCOM: Enemy Within--available at launch.
