Now Playing: Modern Warfare III - 'Multiplayer Maps' Intel Drop Trailer

In the brief video clip below, Sledgehammer Games' Art Director Matt Abbott and Design Director Zach Hodson discuss the importance of keeping these maps mostly true to the originals, but mention that they do include some of the modern mechanics of current Call of Duty titles. This means a map like Highrise will still feel and play much like fans expect from the original map, but now it will be easier to climb and mantle those hard-to-reach ledges and sniper vantage points.

Additionally, Activision's blog says, "Operators can tactical sprint and leap between rooftops, mantle, and navigate alleyways with tac-stance, giving players more confidence during these frenetic, close-quarters engagements."

With engine and design tech advancements at their disposal, the developer says there are graphical improvements to the maps, such as better enemy visibility and greater levels of detail. There will be a lot of nostalgia, but players will find some details changed. For example, Favela has received different vehicle models to line the streets, and the old dirt-and-grass look of the map's original soccer pitch is now paved over with blue acrylic-coated blacktop.

It's also worth noting that Activision says the Modern Warfare 3 versions of the maps were built from the ground up, meaning these were not edited from the remastered versions created for existing points of interest in other maps or games, as some places like Terminal, Rust, and Highrise can currently be found on Warzone's Al Mazrah map.

In addition to the 16 remastered maps for standard core modes, Modern Warfare 3 will also include four "massive environments," with three of them used for Ground War and Invasion maps and one made specifically for the return of Call of Duty: WWII's War mode.

More information will arrive during Call of Duty: Next on October 5, but for now, make sure to check out all the details already announced for Modern Warfare 3. The game releases on across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and all the beta details can be found here.
