YouTube has released a new list of the most popular trending games on its video platform, based on both total watch time and uploads. The list covers the period for the month of January this year. The top ten trending games on YouTube are as follows:
Plants vs. Zombie: Garden Warfare 2Tom Clancy's The DivisionDying LightSubnauticaGoat SimulatorLego Marvel's AvengersShovel KnightRocket LeagueSmiteBoom BeachEA's third-person shooter Plants vs. Zombie: Garden Warfare 2 kicked off its open beta on January 14 and ran until January 18. The game is scheduled for release on February 23 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. It doesn't come as a surprise that The Division lands in second place on the list, as a closed beta weekend recently ran for selected participants and those who pre-ordered the game.
Dying Light's position in third place is likely due to the release of its new DLC, titled "The Following" alongside the trailer for the game's new area. Similarly, the Early Access underwater adventure game Subnautica got an update which improved graphics and introduced new features.
Goat Simulator's crossover deals with Payday 2 and Rocket League can likely be attributed for its fifth place on the list, followed closely by the newly released Lego Marvel's Avengers. Shovel Knight's new unlockable co-op mode brought a lot of players back to the game, despite having been released in 2014.
Soccer car game Rocket League had an announcement for its season 1 finale, as well as season 1 rewards. Competition was also what brought Smite onto the list, with the Smite World Championships culminating in January and representing the first major esports event of the year. Lastly, Boom Beach appears as the only mobile game on the list, with a major event likely boosting its presence on YouTube.
