After several rumors, Swedish developer Arrowhead announced Helldivers 2 during today's PlayStation Showcase event.
The new game is a third-person cooperative shooter (unlike the first game in the series, which had an isometric camera view) due to be released later this year on PlayStation 5 and PC, presumably with cross-play functionality.
Once again, players will team up with up to four friends to spread the message of 'Democracy' and protect their home planet, Super Earth. According to Arrowhead, if you're in a pinch, you can call in powerful 'stratagems', such as an Eagle air vehicle dropping a 500KG bomb on top of the aliens or mining the nearby perimeter with defensive ordnance.
Teams should also coordinate on the customizable loadouts to optimize efficiency. However, friendly fire is always on, so you should take care of where you're firing.
More information on Helldivers 2 will surely be released at a later date. Until then, stay tuned.
