HBO Max has announced that the upcoming podcast series Batman: The Audio Adventures will debut on that streaming service on September 18--also known as Batman Day. This is HBO Max's debut podcast, which likely means others are on the way.
The 10-episode series features a voice that includes Jeffrey Wright (Westworld) as Batman, Rosario Dawson (Daredevil) as Catwoman, and John Leguizamo (Bloodline) as The Riddler. Jason Sudeikis (Ted Lasso) will also make an appearance, though the release announcing the podcast doesn't specify in what role.
As for the Riddler, the show will take a comedic approach to the character, and will be influenced by the classic '60s Batman TV show, as well as the '90s series Batman: The Animated Series. It's written and directed by former SNL writer Dennis McNicholas and is separate from the Batman podcast that DC is producing for Spotify. The entire run of 10 episodes will be made available on September 18.
HBO has been increasing its audio output over the past couple of years. Other releases have included companion shows to the likes of Chernobyl and Lovecraft Country, an upcoming Band of Brothers series, and a spin-off from the acclaimed comedy-drama Insecure. Last year, DC's superhero rivals Marvel announced a deal with SiriusXM to produce a series of podcasts.
