Harrison Ford Doesn't Want To Retire
Harrison Ford Doesn't Want To Retire-October 2024
Oct 22, 2024 9:18 AM

Harrison Ford has announced his intention to retire from the iconic role following the release of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. However, the move does not mark his departure from the world of acting entirely.

In an interview with CNN and Max's Who's Talking to Chris Wallace? scheduled for June 23, Ford expresses his amusement at the idea of retiring and emphasizes his love for work. At 81 years old, Ford states (via Variety), "I don't do well when I don't have work. I love to work. I love to feel useful. It's my passion. I want to continue being involved."

Ford attributes his continued passion for acting to the people he collaborates with and the creative process. He appreciates the collaborative nature of the industry and finds fulfillment in bringing scripts to life. Rather than meticulously planning his approach to scenes or feeling obligated to adhere to certain norms, Ford allows himself to be naturally influenced by the projects he works on.

While Ford's time with Indy is coming to an end, he has other projects in the works. His involvement in the second seasons of the Apple TV+ comedy Shrinking and the Paramount+ drama 1923 will resume once the writers' strike is resolved. Additionally, Ford has been filming for the Marvel film Captain America: Brave New World in Atlanta, where he portrays US President Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross.

Despite his age, Ford believes that age should not limit his enthusiasm for acting. With Dial of Destiny, he wanted to embrace his stage of life and ensure it was an integral part of the story. Ford aims for the film to explore age without resorting to jokes or clichés, using it to enhance the narrative instead.

When asked if saying goodbye to the Indiana Jones character is bittersweet, Ford responds, "No. It's time for me to grow up."

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is scheduled to be released on June 30. Episodes of Who's Talking to Chris Wallace? can be watched on Fridays via Max and are aired on CNN at 10 PM ET / PT.
