TOKYO--Nintendo announced it would release a limited-edition GameCube, starting tomorrow. The console will be released to commemorate the Hanshin Tigers, a particularly popular baseball team in Japan.
The console will feature a black and white stripe resembling the uniform of the Tigers, a baseball team from Osaka with a strong following, despite its reputation as a consistently weak competitor. It has been 18 years since the team has won its league championship. The team will participate in an especially important national series of games beginning October 18.
The limited-edition model of the GameCube will be accompanied by a controller with the baseball team's logo, a GameBoy player, and a jersey with a commemorative design. The set will retail for 27,700 yen (about $235).
