Halo TV Show Greenlit by Showtime, First Season Will Feature Ten Episodes-September 2024
Sep 19, 2024 9:06 PM

Microsoft revealed that the long rumored Halo TV show is finally happening thanks to Showtime, the CBS-owned cable and satellite TV network known for shows like Homeland, Billions, Ray Donovan, The Affair and Shameless.

The Halo TV show will showcase "an epic 26th-century conflict between humanity and an alien threat known as the Covenant … Halo will weave deeply drawn personal stories with action, adventure and a richly imagined vision of the future". Kyle Killen and Rupert Wyatt (The Exorcist, The Rise of the Planet of the Apes) will both executive produce, while the former will also act as writer and showrunner and the latter will direct several episodes.

David Nevins, President and CEO of Showtime, said:

Halo is our most ambitious series ever, and we expect audiences who have been anticipating it for years to be thoroughly rewarded. In the history of television, there simply has never been enough great science fiction. Kyle Killen’s scripts are thrilling, expansive and provocative, Rupert Wyatt is a wonderful, world-building director, and their vision of Halo will enthrall fans of the game while also drawing the uninitiated into a world of complex characters that populate this unique universe.

Kiki Wolfkill, head of Halo Transmedia at 343 Industries, added:

This is a truly exciting moment for the Halo franchise. Together with our creative and production partners at SHOWTIME and Amblin Television, the Halo television series will represent new and exciting way for fans to enter and engage with the Halo universe. We can’t wait to share more on what’s ahead.

There's no telling which part of the lore and where in its timeline will the Halo TV show take place. However, the production will reportedly begin in early 2019, which is probably when we'll get additional information including the cast of actors.

Meanwhile, 343 Industries is working on the Halo: The Master Chief Collection enhancement program as well as the brand new Halo Infinite announced at E3 2018. Powered by the SlipSpace engine, this will be a new adventure fit for series newcomers, though iconic protagonist Master Chief will take the center once again. The game is being developed for both Xbox One and PC.
