Halo for Xbox One will be "transformative," concept art released-October 2024
Oct 22, 2024 9:28 PM

The all-new Halo game for the Xbox One will be "much more transformative" than Halo 4, released at the end of 2012 for the Xbox 360, developer 343 Industries said in a blog post.

"We're proud of what we accomplished with our first release in Halo 4 and now we're focused on something much more transformative as we make the leap to the next generation of Xbox," 343 Industries executive producer Josh Holmes said.

"We showed a hint of what we have in store at E3 last year and we're excited to share more in the not-so-distant future," he added. "Please be patient--we can't wait to show you what we have in store."

The "hint" Holmes spoke about refers to the teaser trailer Microsoft showed during the trade show last June. In this short video, a caped man walks through the desert, only to be revealed in the final seconds as Master Chief. Why he is in the desert is unknown.

343 Industries also released in the blog post a piece of concept art for the new Halo game, showing off a sprawling city and what appears to be a massive UNSC ship. It depicts a new location that will feature "prominently" in the game, but other details aren't available.

The new and still-untitled Halo game for the Xbox One, due out in 2014 for sure, runs on a new game engine, though 343 Industries has not revealed what kinds of proficiencies this technology has over its past engine.

Finally, the blog post addresses some of the changes and additions made to the senior development team at 343 Industries. The game's new creative director is Tim Longo, who has spent more than two decades in the industry working on games like Star Wars: Republic Commando, Star Wars: First Assault (unreleased), and Tomb Raider.

In hiring Longo, Holmes has moved from creative director to executive producer for the new Halo game, a position that will see him heading up the internal development team. Halo 4 executive producer Kiki Wolfkill has transitioned to a new position where she will develop "exciting new stories, experiences, and technologies that will transform the way that you experience Halo."

And as was previously confirmed, art director Kenneth Scott has stepped down from his role, but he will remain attached to the project in his new position of Visual Design Consultant. Nicolas "Sparth" Bouvier, who has worked on franchises like Assassin's Creed and Rage, is taking over as art director.

Notably, it was confirmed last night that Halo universe co-creator Joseph Staten had returned to Microsoft where he will create "incredible entertainment" for the Xbox as a creative director for an unspecified project.
