Nov 15, 2024 8:54 PM

[UPDATE] Halo community manager Brian Jarrard has shared a work-in-progress image of the new "match composer" feature for Halo: MCC. As you can see, it allows you to choose from a number of different options to create a "mixtape"-style playlist. Testers will get to try it first before 343 releases it for everyone.

Sneak peek of the w.i.p. “match composer” in development for MCC (I.e. mixtape matchmaking). Pick the game size, the game(s), and mode(s) and jump in to play! This will be coming soon to a public flight build for community testing and feedback, stay tuned! pic.twitter.com/P0LJ3ovWeA

Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Halo 5: Guardians are years-old games, but Microsoft continues to support them with new updates on a semi-regular basis.

Halo 5 recently added a "Big Team Super Fiesta" playlist. As its name suggests, this is the over-the-top mode where players spawn with random primary and secondary weapons. But with the Big Team variant, the action gets wilder, as 16 players duke it out at the same time. Not only that, but because it is a Big Team variant, there are vehicles on the map that help to crank up the action.

It's Super Fiesta, but bigger... and better! Big Team Super Fiesta has made its explosive debut in Halo 5. Jump in and join the party now! pic.twitter.com/a0R44jJotH

You can find the Big Team Super Fiesta in the Halo 5 multiplayer hopper as a featured playlist. It will presumably only be available for a limited time, so check it out now while you can.

As for Halo: The Master Chief Collection, community manager Brian Jarrard teased that developer 343 is working on a new "mixtape"-style playlist. He suggested this will allow you to designate your preferred matchmaking preferences by game (Halo: MCC includes Halo 1, 2, 3, and 4) and gametype to create a tailor-made playlist. This would be a very welcome feature. More details are coming soon.

A lot of players have suggested that the team add a “mix tape” style feature for MCC matchmaking... I just saw a w.i.p. build that the engineering wizard Mr Hermann has already whipped up for initial testing.???

Imagine customizing your matchmaking preferences by game and gametype and then just jumping in (vs having a bunch of distinct playlists). We’ll share more details soon.

Both Halo 5 and and Halo: MCC are included in the Xbox Game Pass program, which has likely encouraged more people to jump in, and thereby explains why 343 is continuing to update and support those games.

The next all-new Halo game is Halo: Infinite, which is in development for Xbox One and PC. No release date has been announced, but it's probably not coming anytime soon.
