North American gamers will soon have a new path into the niche Japanese gaming underground. Sony Online Entertainment and Rockin' Android announced a new effort today that will see the two collaborating on bringing "doujin," or Japanese-style indie games, to the PlayStation Network. The localized offerings will begin in May with the simultaneous release of Gundemonium Recollection, GundeadliGne, and Hitogata Happa.
Side-scrolling shooters one and all, the three games feature 2D graphics built with an anime aesthetic. The three titles also all firmly reside in the "bullet hell" genre, where players are challenged with dodging seemingly impenetrable waves of enemies and projectiles while returning fire. They will also include Trophy and remote-play support. Pricing details were not revealed.
Subtlety isn't Gundemonium Recollection's forte. Not unlike more prominent Japanese localizers such as Demon's Souls publisher Atlus, Rockin' Android specializes in bringing the country's niche gaming wares to broader audiences. Based in Los Angeles, the company was formed in 2008. Previous releases from the company include PC titles Suguri, Suguri Perfect Edition, Qlione, and Flying Red Barrel: A Diary of a Little Aviator.
