Horizon developer Guerrilla Games will discuss the studio's future during the Develop: Brighton 2023 Keynote, it has been announced.
Sony's Dutch first-party studio will deliver the keynote during the UK game conference this July, during which Angie Smets, Jan-Bart van Beek, and Michiel van der Leeuw will provide a "glimpse" of what lies ahead for the studio. In addition, the team will discuss the challenges it faced during the development of the Zero Dawn sequel, Horizon: Forbidden West.
In addition to providing the opening talk for the game conference in Brighton, Guerrilla Games will also receive the 2023 Develop Star Award for outstanding achievements and contributions to the games industry - a first time for a development studio.
"Guerrilla is thrilled to be delivering a keynote session at Develop: Brighton 2023 and truly honoured to be the first studio to receive the Develop Star Award," said Angie Smets, Guerrilla Games' former studio director. Smets was recently appointed Head of Development Strategy at PlayStation Studios.
We've included the link to the full conference program for Develop: Brighton 2023 here. The event will take place from July 11 through July 13 at the Hilton Brighton Metropole. Other currently confirmed development studios include Hi-Rez Studios, Sumo Digital (which was purchased by Tencent in 2021), and various others. Additional studios will be revealed later on.
Guerrilla Games is known for the Killzone series as well as the popular Horizon games for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. The Amsterdam-based studio recently released the first expansion for Horizon: Forbidden West, The Burning Shores. A new update for the game, packing some highly-requested fixes, was deployed yesterday.
Horizon: Forbidden West is available globally now for PS5 and PS4. The sequel to 2017's Zero Dawn was released last year. Here's what we wrote about the game in our launch review:
Horizon Forbidden West is a worthy sequel to Zero Dawn in every way, proving that Guerrilla is no one-hit wonder when it comes to the action RPG genre. This huge and beautiful world has an incredible amount of things to do and most of them are really fun, thanks to improvements to combat and traversal. The game also features another great storyline that will get fans talking about the inevitable sequel.
