Grand Slam Tennis, Tiger Woods lead EA's Wii MotionPlus push
Grand Slam Tennis, Tiger Woods lead EA's Wii MotionPlus push-September 2024
Sep 20, 2024 10:40 PM

Nintendo's Wii MotionPlus is set to revolutionize the way that games are played on the game maker's best-selling console. That's Nintendo's hope, anyway. A number of games, both first- and third-party, are being geared to support the attachment, and EA has announced that the first set of its upcoming Wii games to do so will launch this June.

Nintendo says it's precise, but this add-on makes it preciserer. EA said today that Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 and EA Sports Grand Slam Tennis will both be optimized for the Wii Remote attachment when they ship out on June 16. Announced during last year's E3 Media & Business Summit, the Wii MotionPlus aims to add a greater level of precision to the console's motion-sensing controls by allowing for, in Nintendo's words, "more comprehensive tracking of a player's arm position and orientation."

First alluded to in August 2008, Grand Slam Tennis is in development at EA Canada and features all four major Grand Slam tournaments. EA also notes that it has secured the exclusive video game rights to the All England Lawn Tennis Club, better known as the site of the Wimbledon Championships. Gamers will be able to create their own custom racquet pro, as well as play as or against a variety of tennis legends both past and present. EA expects to ship the game on other platforms at a later date.

With Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10, EA promises "a near-perfect 1:1 swing," thanks to the MotionPlus attachment. The publisher expects to ship Tiger's latest trip to the virtual links on other platforms this June as well.
