Gran Turismo 7 is the latest game in a series celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, but that doesn't mean it's just for gearheads and longtime fans. In a new State of Play presentation, producer Kazunori Yamauchi explained how the new game aims to also appeal to those who aren't familiar with hot, nasty, badass speed.
More than 400 different cars will be available in Gran Turismo alongside 34 locations and 90 track layouts, so you can switch up your races over and over again while perfecting your driving skills. Set in a car-worshipping paradise, the campaign will start you off with a lowly compact car, and you'll be able to race and upgrade in order to become the ultimate driver.

Now Playing: Gran Turismo 7 | State of Play February 2, 2022 Livestream
From the Car Café in the middle of the map, you can see the cars you've collected, and you'll even be able to talk to some of the people who designed the cars. A separate shopping mall called Brand Central allows you to purchase more cars, and there is also a used car dealership. We anticipate seeing some salespeople there wearing jeans and blazers over a t-shirt.
For newcomers, you can try out the series' signature license tests to learn driving skills that will come in handy during full races, and with the DualSense controller's haptic feedback, you'll feel the track as if it were under you in real life. Coupled with 3D audio, the game aims to deliver more realistic positioning for audio sources, so you can tell exactly where sound is coming from.
Because it's a racing simulator on a cutting-edge console, Gran Turismo 7 is sure to be a graphical showcase, and Polyphony Digital is not cutting corners here. The game actually simulates the entire process by which clouds are formed, including how moisture in the air rises, and this will affect the lighting and skyscape depending on which part of the world you're in. The Scapes mode lets you take your car to over 2,500 different locations, too, so you can take some glamour shots and add photo effects.
Gran Turismo 7 will be available on March 4. In addition to the PS5 version detailed here, there will also be a PS4 release.
