Gotham Knights is an open-world, action-RPG set in Gotham, but Batman has just died. Instead, the game lets you play as Nightwing, Batgirl, Red Hood, or Robin and switch between them as you progress through the story. Each hero has a distinctive combat style and unique skills and abilities that can be unlocked by completing specific missions and leveling up.
At the beginning of the game, many players might be doubtful about the best starting hero, but the good news is that this choice is not binding, and characters can be freely swapped after the first night of patrol. But how can heroes be changed in Gotham Knights? You will find all the information you need in this guide.
Once back at the Belfry after your first official night of patrol, you will notice quite a few new additions in the room. In particular, if you head left of the Batcomputer, you will find the four hero suites which belong, from left to right, to Nightwing, Robin, Batgirl, and Red Hood. To change character in Gotham Knights, interact with the suit of the hero of your choice and confirm your selection. You will be able to see the statistics for each one, which depend on your level and the gear they have equipped.
Keep in mind that you can only change your character while you are at the Belfry, as it is the only location where this feature is available. You won’t be able to do that in the main menu or any other game section. In other words, you can only switch heroes in Gotham Knights during the daytime, between one night of patrol and the other. While on a quest, you can’t change your Knight without returning to the Belfry.
As you gain XP and level up with one hero, the other playable characters will also level up. However, you need to unlock your preferred Skills for each character, and don’t forget to power up their gear. Otherwise, you might have difficulties fighting against more challenging enemies if you do not equip your preferred hero with a good suit and weapons.
You can change the hero to make the most of each Knight’s unique Skills. For example, Robin is an excellent choice for any stealth quest, as many of his abilities help him remain undetected. Red Hood, instead, is great for any mission that requires brute force, as his Skills help him deal more damage to enemies.
Finally, remember that each hero has unique Knighthood Challenges that need to be completed separately to unlock additional movement options, such as Nightwing's Trapeze Glider or Batgirl’s cape, and other crucial Skills. So, do not neglect them as you play with different characters in Gotham Knights.
