Google is launching their new Stadia game streaming platform in a somewhat odd way. Until now, the only officially confirmed way to start streaming at launch has been to pre-order the $129 Stadia Founder’s Edition which includes a Stadia controller, a Chromecast Ultra, and three months subscription to Stadia Pro. There are only a limited number of Founder’s Editions being sold, so if they sell out (as they’re starting to do in Europe) does that mean you’re screwed?

　　Thankfully, not. According to Google’s Jack Buser, once the Founder’s Edition runs out, it will be replaced by a new “Premier Edition”….

　　I'm super proud to tell you that the Founders Edition for Stadia has sold out in Europe. We'll be removing the Founders Edition from the Google Store page in EU countries today, but we're going to replace it with a new bundle that we are calling the Premier Edition. We've been watching the numbers dwindle down and down and down as we've announced more and more games coming – we're up to over 40 games now that have been announced for the platform, with over  28 partners, which is amazing.

　　So, what’s the difference between the Founder’s and Premiere Editions? Not much – the Premiere Edition includes a standard white Stadia controller, rather than the limited-edition “Night Blue” gamepad the Founder’s Edition comes with, but otherwise, the two bundles are exactly the same.

　　For those who haven’t been keeping up, sometime following the initial launch, you’ll be able to subscribe to Stadia Pro, which costs $10 a month and gives you access to 4K streaming and a catalog of older games (so far Destiny 2 is the only title announced). A free option, Stadia Base, which caps resolution at 1080p and doesn’t include access to the catalog of free games, will also be available in 2020. Neither option gives you access to new-release titles – those have to be purchased separately.

　　The Google Stadia Founder’s and Premiere Editions launch sometime this November in 14 countries, including United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland. You can pre-order here.
