Google Stadia Cost, Founder’s Edition Revealed, Games Include Baldur’s Gate III, Destiny 2-September 2024

Back in March Google unveiled Stadia, their much-rumored and anticipated new game streaming service, but they left a lot of specific info under wraps. Well, all the juicy details you could want to know, including price, launch date, game lineup, and more were just revealed in the first Stadia Connect livestream. If you have around half-an-hour to spare you can check out the full show for yourself. If not, you can scroll on down for a handy recap!

First up, pricing – Stadia Pro, which allows you to play at up to 4K and 60fps will cost $10-per-month. Stadia Pro will eventually come with a Netflix-style back catalog of games you can play for free with your subscription, but for now, the only included game is Destiny 2. Other games will have be purchased individually. A free option, Stadia Base, which caps resolution at 1080p and doesn’t include access to the catalog of free games, will also be available eventually.

In a somewhat odd move, Google is also offering a limited Stadia Founder’s Edition, which includes a Chromecast Ultra, a special Night Blue Stadia controller, three months of Stadia Pro and a three month buddy pass, full access to Destiny 2 and, most importantly, the ability to choose your Stadia username before everybody else! Stadia Founder’s Edition will set you back $129 and can be pre-ordered now.

Google also revealed a few more details about what you’ll need to run Stadia. If you’re looking for the best 4K, 60fps experience you’ll need an internet connection of around 35mbps, but if basic 720p HD is all you need, you can get by with as little as 10mbps. At launch, Stadia will run on PCs and tablets via Chrome, and Pixel 3 smartphones via a dedicated app.

Now, the big question – what about games? Google has announced approximately 30 games, including Baldur’s Gate III, Destiny 2, Doom Eternal, Mortal Kombat 11, Ghost Recon Breakpoint, Gylt, Get Packed, FM, The Division 2, Rage 2, Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Dragon Ball FighterZ, Final Fantasy XV, Wolfenstein: Youngblood, The Crew 2, GRID, Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid, The Elder Scrolls Online, Darksiders: Genesis, Just Dance, Dragonball Xenoverse 2, Farming Simulator 19, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Thumper, Samurai Shodown, and Metro Exodus. Not a bad lineup!

The Google Stadia Founder's Edition rolls out this November in 14 countries, including United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland. You'll need to buy the Founder's Edition if you want to play at launch -- Google has not yet revealed when those who don't want to pay $129 can sign up for Stadia Pro. The free Stadia Base option won't arrive until 2020.

What do you think? Now that you know the price, lineup, and other details, are you considering giving Stadia a shot?
