GOG has a great Halloween themed sale going on right now with some of the best horror games ever created on the list. Sometimes tricks are also hidden treats.
Just remember that sometimes the scariest of horror games (and movies) are mostly psychological in nature. It's the unknown, and our imagination that's even more frightening. The 7th Guest was one of my first horror games on the PC I ever played, and though the graphics aren't necessarily convincing, the story and general feel still remains.
