Gizmondo to come equipped with Nvidia chipset-November 2024
Nov 15, 2024 3:56 AM

LONDON--In the mobile market, convergence is, increasingly, the name of the game. The Gizmondo, which combines Windows CE functionality with high-end gaming, digital photography, and GPS awareness, has a chance to elevate this philosophy to new levels. In an interview today with GameSpot, Paul Hilton, Gizmondo’s head of games, confirmed rumors that his company's multifaceted device will come to market outfitted with an Nvidia 3D chipset.

Nvidia's brand-new SC10 3D accelerator will enable the Gizmondo to render 3D using dedicated hardware. Partnered with a graphics card to push polygons and draw textures, the Gizmondo’s 400MHZ ARM9 CPU will be free to crunch physics and game logic. In short, this results in better frame rates and higher graphical fidelity.

GameSpot was able to participate in a short demonstration of a revamped version of Fathammer’s Stuntcar Extreme, which nicely proved the above point. Using Fathammer’s new X-Forge 2 middleware, the game performed impressively, and it featured new lighting effects and a higher polygon count than that of its Zodiac predecessor.
