Ghostwire: Tokyo Spider’s Thread Update Adds Denuvo as an Extra “Feature”
Ghostwire: Tokyo Spider’s Thread Update Adds Denuvo as an Extra “Feature”-November 2024
Nov 30, 2024 1:35 AM

Bethesda and Tango Gameworks have essentially relaunched Ghostwire: Tokyo, releasing on Xbox Series X/S (it was previously PS5 console exclusive) alongside the “Spider’s Thread” update. Unfortunately, the update includes a less-than-thrilling new “feature” on PC – Denuvo anti-tamper has been added to the game. Players digging around in the Ghostwire: Tokyo executable file picked up that Denuvo had likely been added to the game, and Bethesda would later confirm it, adding an official warning on the game’s Steam page.

Ghostwire: Tokyo wasn’t exactly known for its stellar PC optimization to begin with, so hopefully Denuvo doesn’t have too much of a negative impact on performance. It seems Bethesda is going all-in on the anti-tamper tech, as the upcoming Redfall will have it as well.

For those who haven’t been keeping up, the Ghostwire: Tokyo Spider’s Thread update adds a number of new features, including new abilities and enemies, but the headline bullet points are the titular Spider’s Thread gauntlet mode and new story beats. You can get more details on those, below.

New Spider’s Thread Game Mode - In addition to the main game, the Spider’s Thread game mode tasks players to navigate a 30-stage gauntlet selected from over 120 hand-crafted levels with one simple goal: get to the end. As players clear challenges and complete stages, they will unlock more skills and earn in-game currency to spend on upgrades. Explore New Areas and Uncover More Story - The Spider’s Thread update adds new locations to visit including the local Middle School area. These new locations come with new missions for players to take on and uncover more mysteries. The main game’s story will also feature extended cutscenes, granting players a deeper look into the plot as they play through Akito & KK’s adventure to stop the menacing Hannya from destroying Tokyo.Haven’t been keeping up with Ghostwire: Tokyo? Wccftech’s Alessio Palumbo found it to be an enticing open-world adventure in his full review…

“Ghostwire: Tokyo may be the best game yet from developer Tango Gameworks. It's a great and meaty action/adventure game featuring an enticing universe, solid combat, and excellent exploration of the wonderfully designed Tokyo.”

Ghostwire: Tokyo and the Spider’s Thread update are available now on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5.
