Ghostwire Tokyo Announced by Resident Evil Creator Shinji Mikami, Trippy Trailer Released-November 2024
Nov 25, 2024 1:22 AM

Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami just took to the stage at the 2019 Bethesda E3 Showcase to announce the next horror game from his studio Tango Gameworks, and it isn’t The Evil Within 3. No, Tango’s next game is a new supernatural horror IP, entitled Ghostwire Tokyo. Can check out a teaser for the game, below.

After revealing the title, Mikami threw it to Tango’s enthusiastic, and kinda adorable, creative director Ikumi Nakamura, who explained that this won’t be another Resident-Evil-style survival horror game. It seems people have been mysteriously disappearing from Tokyo, and it’s up to you to find out why. We have very little to go on right now, but here's the all-too-brief brief official description for Ghostwire Tokyo:

After strange disappearances hit Tokyo’s population, it’s up to you to uncover the source and purge the city of a strange, new evil. Armed with your own mysterious spectral abilities, you will face down the occult, unravel conspiracy theories and experience urban legends like never before.

It definitely sounds like the game will have more of a traditional adventure vibe, perhaps with more of a focus on mystery and puzzle solving, and less running away from bloodthirsty monstrosities. That said, that mysterious hooded guy, who I assume is the Ghostwire Tokyo's protagonist, does have that fancy bow and the ability to shoot energy from his hands, so I'm guessing there's some sort of action element to the game, as well.

So, what do you think? Are you excited for Ghostwire Tokyo? I'm always willing to give whatever Shinji Mikami produces a shot, but I'll be honest -- I never quite fell in love with The Evil Within. Honestly, I'm glad Tango is trying something different, and, so far, the game is looking promising.

Platforms and a release date have yet to be announced for Ghostwire Tokyo.
