Ghost Recon Wildlands Documentary Trailer Showcases the South American Drug Trade-December 2024
Dec 27, 2024 2:02 AM

Learn a bit about the war on drugs. Ubisoft announced that they are working on a companion documentary for Ghost Recon Wildlands that focuses on the South American drug trade.

The film 'Wildlands' will highlight the stories that inspired the campaign for the open-world third-person shooter Ghost Recon Wildlands' fictional Bolivian backdrop.

Narrating the film is Rusty Young, the author of the New York Times best-seller, Marching Powder. Rusty travels all through South America to the United States and chats with all the major players involved in area's cocaine trade.

Colin Offland, Game Director, described what it took to gather the source material for Wildlands:

We spoke to the people who know the drug trade better than anyone else; iconic characters, from either side of the law, who have defined this continent’s notorious image. The war on drugs is a complex one and we give viewers unprecedented insight to the people who have shaped this landscape, enabling a better understanding of a global issue which affects us all.

Some of the iconic people that the documentary highlights is George Jung who was played by Johnny Depp in the movie Blow, and Tomas McFadden, a former drug trafficker. There's even an interview with ex-Navy Seal, Adam Newbold, who talks about his 20 years working in South America.

The Wildlands documentary will release on March 7 alongside Ghost Recon Wildlands on Xbox One, PC, and PlayStation 4.

Finally, Geoffroy Sardin, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Ubisoft gave us his thoughts on the documentary:

Wildlands is a thought-provoking depiction of this complex issue. This subject matter has accumulated huge global interest and we believe that, as a companion to Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands, we take gamers and viewers of Wildlands on a journey of discovery of an issue that continues to grip and fascinate global audiences.
