Kids are reportedly skiving off school in Germany to play games in shopping centres and department stores, and the politicians want to put an end to it.
According to the German newspaper Welt am Sonntag, this is just one of 22 recommendations proposed to fight juvenile delinquency.
The report Violent Crime by Young People concludes that stronger measures against truancy are required and suggests turning off game displays during school hours as one solution. State interior minister of Hamburg Udo Nagel commented, "Truancy can be the beginning of a criminal career. Therefore, we must intervene."
The findings will be discussed at the Interior Ministers Conference later this week.
In Germany, the Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle ratings board on occassion denies violent games a certificate, meaning that the titles can only be sold from behind the counter to adults, and no advertising is allowed. Back in 2006, proposed legislation was considered which would consider cruelty against "human-looking characters" worthy of a fine or prison sentence.
