Nvidia has released new suggested pricing information on its spring lineup of GeForce2 and GeForce3 cards. The new recommended prices for Nvidia's cards are now as follows: $99 for the GeForce2 MX 200, $129 for the GeForce2 400, and $199 for the GeForce2 Pro. The GeForce3 was initially expected to cost $500 to $550, but its new suggested price is $399, which is the same launch price that the GeForce2 GTS 64MB carried last spring and less than the GeForce2 Ultra cost initially. Nvidia hopes that the lower price will make the card more widely accessible but still characterizes it as an early adopter product. Nvidia is set to emphasize the GeForce2 Pro 64MB card--outfitted with faster memory than the standard GeForce2 GTS--as a mainstream graphics card with very good performance.
The GeForce3 cards are "now in full production and should be available to end users at the end of this month," according to Nvidia spokesperson Brian Burke. He attributed the new suggested price for the GeForce3 to a smoother-than-anticipated move to the .15 micron production process that the GeForce3 uses. The GeForce2 Pro and new GeForce2 MX versions are already available from various board makers.
