Gateway has chosen to use 3Dfx's Voodoo2 chipset and add it to its current Destination line of family home multimedia systems. If you haven't seen Gateway's big system, the destination combines a large monitor with a PC that allows you to watch TV - and do all the rest of your computing on the same oversize screen.
Gateway hasn't announced which board it will be using, but 3Dfx speculates Gateway will choose STB's BlackMagic3D Voodoo2 graphics board. Gateway has a long-standing business relationship with STB Systems, the maker of the board.
"Putting the power of the 3Dfx Interactive platform in some of the best PCs from Gateway is a terrific win for the consumer,'' said Greg Ballard, president and chief executive officer of 3Dfx Interactive. "Gateway is a trusted name and value with consumers, and adding the leading 3D graphics power from 3Dfx, and the platform of game titles and software compatibility that goes with it, opens the door of 3D entertainment to a broad market.''
