TOKYO - Following on the heels of the Goemon game series' success, Konami announced Saturday at the Tokyo Game Show that a Ganbare Goemon television cartoon series would soon begin airing in Japan.
The television series appears to focus on a temporally transplanted Goemon and friends, removed from their home in ancient Japan and brought into the present. There, an elementary school student helps then cope with modern life and combat the forces of evil while juggling the responsibilities of a student.
For the uninitiated, the Ganbare Goemon series follows the adventures of lifelong friends Goemon and Ebisumaru, a strange duo that never seem to get credit for all the times they've saved Japan.
A longtime favorite in Japan, the series has almost always served up good gameplay and typically Japanese, off-color humor. The fifth game in the Goemon series was recently released in Japan for the Nintendo 64, and a new Gameboy adventure is also on it's way to Japan.
Goemon 5 will be released in the states as Legend of the Mystical Ninja 64.
