Gaming Has a New Billionaire-October 2024
Oct 18, 2024 7:31 PM

The video game industry has a new billionaire in its ranks, it appears. Bloomberg reports today that Victor Kislyi, founder and CEO of Cyprus-based World of Tanks developer Wargaming, has a net worth of $1 billion.

Kislyi declined to confirm this number, but told the publication that he lives a "very modest" lifestyle and is not one to "put a number" on the fortune he's amassed as leader Wargaming.

The company itself is reportedly valued at $1.5 billion. Kislyi controls 64 percent of the business directly and also has his father's 25.5 percent stake.

According to Bloomberg, Wargaming has a network of 150 million users across the globe. The studio is best known for its free-to-play game World of Tanks, which is monetized through optional add-on content. The company is also behind the upcoming Master of Orion reboot.

The full Bloomberg profile on Kisyli is a good read, packed with interesting insight into his life and various investments, among other things.

Other gaming billionaires include Minecraft creator Markus "Notch" Persson and Valve head Gabe Newell.

Persson, who sold Mojang and the Minecraft franchise to Microsoft in September 2014 for $2.5 billion, was believed to have owned 70 percent of shares in Mojang. In his post-Mojang life, Persson outbid Jay-Z and Beyonce for a $70 million Beverly Hills mansion and threw one heck of a housewarming party.
