GameStop stores across the United States have stopped taking preorders for the Xbox One, as launch-day allocation has reportedly reached its cap. Preorders through GameStop's website remain open and available.
Polygon reports that GameStop senior managers have sent word to store managers informing them to no longer accept preorders until Microsoft makes additional stock available.
The site spoke with GameStop stores across the country, with all outlets declining to accept preorders for the next-generation Xbox. These stores continue to take PlayStation 4 orders, as managers said stock for Sony's system is "considerably higher than Microsoft's."
GameStop began taking Xbox One preorders on June 10, the day Microsoft held its E3 2013 media briefing and announced a $500 price point for the system. Consumers can reserve a unit by providing a $100 deposit.
A GameStop spokesperson confirmed with Polygon that, "Due to high demand, GameStop is not taking additional store reservations for the Xbox One Day One Edition. However, reservations can still be made at www.gamestop.com."
