GameSpot has performed extensive research, evaluations, and surveys about our moderation policies since earlier this year. In November 2011, on December 7, we announced the changes to the Terms of Use agreement.
The following content no longer requires moderation as long as the content does not violate other rules outlined in the Terms of Use agreement.
- Trolling/Flaming
- Vulgar language (censor bypass)
- Foreign languages
Each forum has specific rules and guidelines for tailored experiences, located at the top of each forum and accompanied with a sticky thread discussion as outlined in the Terms of Use agreement, section 1.
If you have concerns about the changes, we expect you to take the following actions:
Rate Comments: If you find someone being annoying in the comments, rate his or her posts negatively.
Make It Private: If you have a problem with someone annoying you in your blog, set your profile to private.
Don't Feed the Trolls: If you have a problem with someone in the forums annoying you, simply ignore what he or she has to say. People who troll or flame want your attention. Lack of attention is your only solution to the problem.
Abusing Reviews? If someone is not writing a review about the game, it should be reported. Anyone caught writing reviews about critics rather than the game has reviews subject for removal and possibly a moderation.
Harassment in the ToU is Not Trolling or Flaming. If you believe you are at risk of being physically harmed or personally affected by such actions as hacking, tampering of personal information, and the like, contact customer support immediately.
