Games Take Over Multiplexes-October 2024
Oct 30, 2024 5:26 AM

With sales of some video and computer games reaching into the millions of units, Hollywood has taken notice. First, it was Super Mario Brothers and Street Fighter: The Movie. Now several more game licenses are being turned into films with big budgets and popular stars.

Resident Evil: The Movie will be hitting theaters in mid-1998, according to the site Dark Horizons, and will star Jason Patric, Bruce Campbell, and Samantha Mathis. We reported at E3 that the script had been completed by Alan McElroy, who also wrote the screenplay for Spawn.

Duke Nukem is apparently also going to appear as a movie. Dolph Lundgren will reportedly star as the action hero. No script or plot has yet been decided on. Movie versions of both Quake and Doom have also reportedly been in development by Hollywood studios.

So as you venture to the movies this weekend to check out the big releases this week, just remember that soon enough you'll find your favorite video game characters on the same screen.
