The big news for the week had to be ECTS in London, the Brits partied it up with international media, developers, and gaming idols to show off the latest wares to Europe. GameSpot UK covered the event while those of us here in the states took the long weekend off. Here are a few of the stories we thought the most interesting.
Gamers are suddenly getting a taste of games we thought might never come out. First on the list is Daikatana. Although people have speculated (in the extreme) that the title may never see a release, ION Storm says that it has finished adding two sidekicks into the game. But still, no release date has been mentioned. On the other hand, Half-Life, the second extremely delayed action shooter is getting ready to ship a special version to OEMs (and we know the title is due this October as well).
In other various news, Eidos has begun talking about its strategy title Braveheart. The game will be based on the Mel Gibson movie of the same name complete with movie cut scenes. From the initial screenshots of the game, it looks like the development team loves to play Myth. Could this be a new trend?
Racing fans had some good news this week, Sierra and Papyrus got the thumbs up to use the Ferrari license in the anticipated Grand Prix Legends. For racing fans without the millions needed to buy a race car, the Silicon Motor Speedway is running the 3Dfx Cup in several malls around the US. You get to race in a full sized NASCAR automobile with a 3Dfx powered view. If you're any good, you could wind up taking home some lucrative prize money.
