　　An upcoming PlayStation 4 firmware update will allow you turn off the lightbar on the DualShock 4 controller. PlayStation president of Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida revealed the news to journalist Geoff Keighley today the Game Developers Conference.

　　In January, a fan asked Yoshida on Twitter if Sony would someday allow users to turn off the lightbar, to which he plainly replied: "No." It appears there's been a change of heart at Sony, though it's not clear if fan feedback or some other reason drove the decision.

　　The next PS4 firmware update is 1.70, which includes an HDCP off option for gameplay capture and a new video editing tool, is due to launch in the coming weeks. It's not clear if the ability to turn off the DualShock 4 lightbar will come through this update or a future update.

　　The DualShock 4 lightbar works in conjunction with the PlayStation Camera as a tracking beacon. When multiple gamers are playing together, the lightbar will designate each player a color (blue, red, green, pink) depending on the order in which they press the PlayStation button.
