Funimation's App Will Be Ready For Your Xbox Series X And PlayStation 5 In Time For Launch-October 2024
Oct 20, 2024 9:09 PM

Remember when we had to work hard to find things to do with our new game consoles at launch? Aside from countless backwards-compatible games, there are also tons of media apps to enjoy, and Funimation is making sure we're all set for anime as soon as our new systems finish installing their day-one patches.

Funimation announced today that its official app will be available on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PlayStation 5 as the new consoles launch. The app hits Xbox tomorrow, November 10th, at which point it will be available in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand. It'll hit PlayStation 5 two days later as that system launches. The PlayStation 5 iteration will be available only in the United States initially, but the UK and Ireland will follow on November 19.

Now Playing: My Hero Academia: Two Heroes - Romance Trailer

"Funimation is thrilled to make the jump to the next generation of the gaming console and will be available for fans to stream right from day one," said Fadhilah Lee, Funimation's Executive Director of Distribution and Partnerships in an official statement from Funimation. "No matter what gaming console is preferred, fans will be able to watch all of their anime favorites."

Hit shows like Attack on Titan, My Hero Academia, and Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba are available on the app. The service starts at $5.99 a month and goes up from there.

Once relegated to the back of video rental stores, anime has turned into a big moneymaker for streaming services. Crunchyroll, which offers similar pricing for anime streaming and will also be available on the new consoles at launch, is reportedly up for sale with none other than Sony getting ready to pony up nearly $1 billion. Netflix, meanwhile, has seen anime viewing shoot up by 50%, reaching 100 million pairs of eyeballs.
