Nostalgia is a heck of a drug, so it's unsurprising Fortnite players are remaking the original map for the battle royale game. Usually that's a no-no since the recreation is technically utilizing a company's intellectual property with the Unreal Editor for Fortnite add-on. Having said that, developer Epic has now updated its terms to allow these imitations of the very first island.
The Fortnite team wrote up a blog post giving its blessing to creators and their work remaking the battle royale game's original map. The one stipulation is they won't receive money for these designs.

Now Playing: Fortnite Creator Economy 2.0 and UEFN Demo Presentation | State of Unreal GDC 2023
"...We are as excited as you to relive the experiences we shared in the original Fortnite Battle Royale Chapter 1 map, and so we are granting a special and specific exception to allow creators to publish their own remakes of the Chapter 1 maps (and only the Chapter 1 maps)," the Fortnite team wrote. "Like maps built using the 'Battle Royale Island' starter island, islands recreating Chapter 1 maps will remain ineligible for monetization."
A studio called Atlas Creative is already behind a remake of the Fortnite Chapter 1 map with the recent launch of Creative 2.0. That means you can go back to fan-favorite locations like Tilted Towers and Greasy Grove.
Unreal Editor for Fortnite just arrived earlier this week as a PC-only add-on for the battle royale game. To learn more, here's everything you need to know about Fortnite Creative 2.0.
