Ford boss says he won't replace Ballmer as Microsoft CEO-October 2024
Oct 17, 2024 11:28 AM

Ford CEO Alan Mulally, who was previously thought of to be one of the top candidates to replace outgoing Microsoft boss Steve Ballmer, has confirmed he will not be leaving the car manufacturer.

"I would like to end the Microsoft speculation because I have no other plans to do anything other than serve Ford," said Mulally to the Associated Press.

"You don't have to worry about me leaving," he added.

Mulally did not confirm whether he had held talks with Microsoft about the job, but did mention that speculation about the position was becoming a distraction for Ford.

Mulally is credited with reviving Ford since taking the CEO position at the company in 2006.

The CEO vacancy at Microsoft popped up back in August 2013, as Ballmer announced that he would retire in the next 12 months and will be stepping down once the ink dries on his successor's contract.

Microsoft announced earlier this week that it sold 3 million Xbox One units in 2013.
