Comedian Flula Borg will take up the javelin of, well, Javelin in the upcoming The Suicide Squad movie. He went on Conan O'Brien's talk show to promote the film, but Borg being Borg, it didn't go as Conan had anticipated.
"I was told nothing about [the movie], except the name of my character--it's Javelin--so I just started googling...he's a former German Olympic javelin thrower," Borg explains. "He likes to be rude and he has a very huge..." Then spread out in his hands and winked. In which Conan asked "Javelin?" Borg nodded.
The antics didn't stop there as Borg said he did research by just looking up all things with the word javelin, or something close to it.
"I was not certain what I was to be doing as this Javelin person, so I just started googling all the things of 'javelin'. There's a band called Javelin...I started coding in JavaScript. Just for fun, I made a website. I rubbed myself with havoline, which is an oil so why not. And also, javelina. It's a small, medium-sized mammal also known as the skunk pig."
Going along with it, Conan finally asked if Borg practiced with a javelin for the role. Borg quickly dismissed the question, stating, "No, it's called acting."
Borg has appeared in a few feature films such as Pitch Perfect 2, but is mainly known for television guest spots on such shows as HBO's Curb Your Enthusiasm and most recently NBC's Mr. Mayor. This is his first foray into live-action comic book movies, but provided the voice of Robotman in Teen Titans, Go!.
The Suicide Squad hits theaters and HBO Max August 6, 2021.
