Five Nights At Freddy's Movie Opens Massive, Breaks Box Office Records-October 2024
Oct 19, 2024 12:40 AM

Lackluster reviews and streaming day-and-date on Peacock didn't stop Five Nights at Freddy's from having a record-breaking weekend at the box office. The PG-13 horror movie--based on the video game franchise that debuted in 2014--premiered with the biggest Blumhouse worldwide total ever with over $130 million, topping the $91.8 million that the 2018 Halloween film earned, according to Deadline.

But that's not all. Five Nights at Freddy's also debuted with the biggest global tally for a horror film this year, beating out The Nun 2 ($88.1 million). It also now holds the crown for best PG-13 horror movie opening (a title previously held by 2001's The Mummy Returns) and the second-largest opening weekend for a video game adaptation.

Director Emma Tammi has the distinction of helming the biggest horror film opening for a woman. Five Nights at Freddy's is also her third collaboration with Blumhouse, following Into the Dark: Delivered and Election Day: Lens Across America. Tammi previously talked about how Five Nights at Freddy's is inspired by The Joker and Steven Spielberg.

Domestically, Five Nights at Freddy's started out with an estimated $78 million, easily taking the No. 1 spot. Taylor Swift: Eras Tour continued to perform well with $14.7 million, and Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon added another $9 million.
