First Metroid Prime Comparison Highlights Major Visual and Performance Improvements on Switch-September 2024
Sep 23, 2024 3:19 AM

The first Metroid Prime comparison video has been released, comparing the newly remastered Switch version to the original Gamecube and Wii versions.

Various rumors already claimed that Nintendo was planning to release a remaster of the first Metroid Prime, but the title wasn't officially announced yet. During yesterday's Direct broadcast, Nintendo did not only announce the existence of the title but also shadow-dropped it on the eShop.

According to Nintendo, the game's controls have been updated to 2023, and assets have been reworked in HD. So how much of an upgrade are we looking at? Well, going by this comparison from 'ElAnalistaDebits', Nintendo has outdone itself with this remastered version with the remaster benefiting from impressive lighting, improved physics, and a stable framerate in both docked and handheld mode. In docked TV mode, Metroid Prime Remastered runs in 900p resolution at 60FPS, whereas in handheld mode, the game runs in 612p at 60FPS. Check out the comparison video down below:

  - Metroid Prime Remastered adds numerous visual improvements on Nintendo Switch, being closer to a remake than a remaster.

  - New textures, geometry improvements, new lighting system, post-processing effects or improved physics are some of the most notable improvements.

  - The game runs at 900p/60fps in dock mode and 612p/60fps in handheld mode. The framerate is completely stable in both cases.

  - The new lighting, despite being baked, shows a pretty impressive result. One of the best I've seen on Nintendo Switch.

  - This remastering recovers some details that we lost in the Wii version, such as water physics or gun smoke.

  - 4 types of control for an experience to everyone's liking. We can choose the type of control of Gamecube, Wii, hybrid or one adapted similar to the current shooters.

  - It is one of the best remasters I've tried (and probably the best) with excellent performance and quality. If we add that Metroid Prime is a masterpiece, this game is a must have.

Metroid Prime is available globally now for the Switch digitally through the eShop. A physical version will release later this month on February 22.
