First look: Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro
First look: Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro-September 2024
Sep 19, 2024 6:02 PM

Neversoft had a difficult job on its hands with the original Spider-Man game for the PlayStation: to bring to virtual life a character capable of climbing walls, swinging from webs, jumping several stories high, and using web fluid for a variety of different attacks. Previous Spider-Man games had attempted all this to varying degrees of success, but Spider-Man for the PlayStation was the first to set out to do all of it in 3D--and, save for having a few sticky camera problems, it was hugely successful in accomplishing all its goals. As with its Tony Hawk series, Neversoft has raised the ante so high with the original game that it's going to be tough to impress people as much with the follow-up, which is set to arrive in the fall of this year.

In the sequel, Spider-Man villain Electro has discovered a way to create a machine capable of amplifying his already considerable electrical powers. You, as Spider-Man, must stop his attempts to steal the parts necessary to construct the machine. To help you do that, you'll have new webbing-based attacks, such as the ability to electrify or freeze your enemies. You'll also have additional combo moves available to you, as well as new armored suits to make you less susceptible to Electro's hard-to-avoid distance attacks. We also hear that once you beat a level boss, you'll be able to view snapshots of some of the key moments of the fight, similar to the replay mode found in Neversoft's Tony Hawk games.

As with the first game, Activision is being shy about revealing what other villains will appear in the game (there has to be someone more interesting in it than Electro...). We should have more information on who's in the game, as well as how it plays, after getting a chance to test it out at the upcoming E3 in Los Angeles. Make sure to check back in for more reports on the game during the show.
