In May, THQ signed a deal with MTV that would allow the publisher exclusive rights to the MTV property for all current and future gaming platforms from Sony, Nintendo, Sega, and the PC. Today we can reveal the first fruit of this partnership, MTV Sports: Snowboarding for the PlayStation.
Developed by Radical Entertainment, THQ claims MTV Sports: Snowboarding will perfectly replicate the feel of the tricks, crashes, and other action of the real MTV sports events. The game will include promotions, celebrities, and musical groups that people know from seeing the events on TV.
"Snowboarding has come to be defined by the unexpected: Boarders make their mark in new and inventive ways with unique moves and surprise tricks in every competition on every run," said Michael Rubinelli, vice president of development for THQ. "Our goal is to invoke that same feeling: Players will have the ability to create their own personal style and design their own runs with the all new create-a-park feature. This complete experience is delivered to the sounds of today's hottest bands."
MTV Sports: Snowboarding will take players to five mountain resorts around the world. There, they'll compete in five events: Slopestyle, Freeride, Mountain X, Big-air, and Halfpipe.
The game's create-a-park mode lets gamers design their own tracks by placing jumps, rails, and even obstacles into their courses. These custom-designed tracks can then be saved to a memory card.
THQ is currently slating MTV Sports: Snowboarding for a November release.
