Sony Computer Entertainment America has announced that it plans to release C-12: Final Resistance for the PlayStation. Developed by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe's Cambridge studio, best known for MediEvil and MediEvil 2, the game was released in Europe last year.
The game is set in the aftermath of a hostile invasion of Earth by unknown alien forces. While the motivation behind the invasion is initially unclear, in the wake of the attack, the surviving humans realize the aliens have come to harvest all nonradioactive carbon from the planet, hence the game's title, which refers to the atomic weight for carbon. Those humans left alive are captured by the aliens and turned into cyborg drones.
Players assume the role of resistance fighter Riley Vaughan, who must save the earth from impending doom. Armed with an imaging unit that has been surgically implanted to replace his left eye, as well as powerful arsenal of weapons, Vaughan must complete tasks, collect items, and destroy the aliens.
The game uses a heavily modified version of the MediEvil graphics engine and looks pretty sharp. Sony has stated it will be tightening up the gameplay of the European game for the US release. C-12 is due this July for the PlayStation.
