UK-based developer, Computer Artworks, has released further information on its upcoming next-generation video game, The Thing. As the title suggests, the game is based on the classic John Carpenter horror film, in which Kurt Russell is stranded at a research center in Antarctica and must survive vicious alien organisms. According to Computer Artworks, the game picks up where the film left off, and is a mix of the survival-horror and action. The developers hope to create a believable science fiction world, through the use of its proprietary multi-platform engine. So, players can expect to find vast 3D landscapes to explore and innovative character AI in the game. The Thing is being developed for the Sony PlayStation 2, Microsoft Xbox, and Nintendo GameCube and Game Boy Advance. It is currently on schedule to be released in Q1 2002 by Konami.
"If ever there was a franchise with fantastic games' potential, this is it," said William Latham, creative director at Computer Artworks. "Move over Alien, mover over Predator, The Thing has arrived and it is crueler, more intelligent, and more terrifying than any other previous opponent."
On a related note, GameSpot has further confirmed that one of Computer Artworks' originally rumored PlayStation 2 games, Evolva, could be released as early as Q2 2001. Details regarding PS2-specific enhancements are scarce at this time. For more on Evolva, read our review of the PC version.
