Blumhouse's Firestarter reboot has added actress Sydney Lemmon to its cast. Deadline is reporting that she'll be playing Charlie's (Ryan Kiera Armstrong) mother and Zac Efron's wife, Vicky McGee.
A remake of the Stephen King 1980 novel, the movie follows a young girl, Charlie McGee, who develops pyrokinetic abilities and is abducted by a secret government agency that wants to weaponize her.
This is the second remake of King's classic novel, the first being in 1984 starring Drew Barrymore, rockstar David Keith, Heather Locklear, and King feature film alumni Martin Sheen. There was a sequel television miniseries in 2002 starring Marguerite Moreau and Malcolm McDowell that aired on the Sci-Fi Channel.
Along with Efron, Armstrong, and Lemmon, the film also features Michael Greyeyes (Blood Quantum) as Rainbird, and Gloria Reuben (Mr. Robot) in an unnamed role. Firestarter will be directed by relative newcomer Keith Thomas, who made a name for himself in 2017 with the horror film The Vigil.
Jason Blum, and of course his production company Blumhouse, has established itself quickly as this generation's Hammer Film Productions, having produced more than 50 horror films and TV shows in the last decade. They've had their hands in big hits like Get Out to 2020's Invisible Man and also helping to reimagine the Wolfman, which has entered pre-production.
There is no release date announced for this production.
