Final Fight brawls to Wii VC-December 2024
Dec 23, 2024 10:38 AM

When Capcom originally released Final Fight on the Super Nintendo in 1991, having a former pro wrestler turned political figure was novel. But Mike Haggar, the mayor of Metro City, put a prescient pounding on the notion that people wouldn't vote for a man capable of delivering a devastating jumping piledriver, in some sense paving the way for Jesse "The Body" Ventura's stint as governor of Minnesota nearly a decade later.

Now gamers can relive those days, because Nintendo today announced the release of the Super Nintendo edition of Final Fight for the Wii's Virtual Console downloadable game service. When the mayor's daughter is kidnapped by the Mad Gear gang, Haggar teams up with her boyfriend Cody to save her by pummeling the punks into oblivion. While the arcade original featured two-player simultaneous action and a third character, Guy, these features were sacrificed for the series' Super Nintendo debut. Final Fight is available for 800 Wii points ($8).

Joining Final Fight on the Virtual Console today are Tecmo's NES action platformer Mighty Bomb Jack and Namco Bandai's TurboGrafx-16 multiplayer-capable port of the arcade shooter Ordyne. Mighty Bomb Jack is available for 500 Wii points ($5), while Ordyne goes for 600 Wii points ($6).
