Final Fantasy XVI Update 1.03 Adds Motion Blur Slider, Camera Improvements and More Fixes
Final Fantasy XVI Update 1.03 Adds Motion Blur Slider, Camera Improvements and More Fixes-October 2024
Oct 25, 2024 10:28 AM

Today, Square Enix announced the release of a new update for Final Fantasy XVI. Version 1.03 adds the much-requested motion blur slider. Users will be able to tweak the amount of motion blur from the default setting of 5 all the way down to 0, which removes motion blur entirely. However, early impressions of the patch do not advise that, as the graphics look weird without any motion blur. It is recommended to simply tone it down to 2 or 3.

Moreover, there are two new options to called Player Follow (Movement) and Player Follow (Attack). When turned off, these settings stop the camera from following the player's movement either when moving, attacking, or both.

The rest of the changelog can be found below:

Changes the maximum setting of the Camera Sensitivity (Horizontal) and Camera Sensitivity (Vertical) items from 10 to 20.Adds three new controller layouts: types D, E, and F.Corrects an issue that affected the stability of some menus.Corrects some text issues.Adds the hashtag #FF16 when sharing screenshots or video clips on Twitter or YouTube.Unfortunately, the new Final Fantasy XVI update does not include any performance improvement. The day one patch was supposed to do that, but testing failed to show any changes from the demo.

That's a shame, as the current state of the game isn't great from a technical standpoint. The rendering resolution drops to 720P in Performance mode, and the upscaling technology used seems to be AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 1 instead of the newer and better version.

On the flip side, PC players should be able to wait more easily for the PC version knowing they likely won't have to deal with any of these issues. Square Enix is now focusing on the port; while there's no release date yet, Final Fantasy XVI is probably coming to PC at some point in 2024.

There's a great game on the way, according to the reception of the PS5 version. The game earned a 9/10 score on Wccftech, with reviewer Kai Powell stating:

Final Fantasy XVI heralds in a new standard for Japanese role-playing games and while the RPG components themselves are limited by Square-Enix standards, it's the narrative and gameplay that exceed all expectations. What begins with kingdom-wide subterfuge and destruction ends with a world forever changed and the player, as Clive Rosfield and Ifrit together, are the driving force to see it all through until the end.

Square Enix also confirmed that the game sold over three million in a matter of days, becoming the fastest-selling PlayStation 5 exclusive to date.

In other Final Fantasy XVI news, producer Naoki Yoshida told Kakuchopurei that he would like to make Cid playable in the future.

Personally, I would make Cid playable. He is such an interesting character with his complex life and background story. This is not a business decision, but more a personal and creative decision to make him playable in a future content update.

For now, there's no official plan for a Final Fantasy XVI DLC. However, given the early success enjoyed by the game, there's definitely a chance of something happening in the future.
