Final Fantasy XVI – Should You Use the Berserker Ring?
Final Fantasy XVI – Should You Use the Berserker Ring?-October 2024
Oct 25, 2024 6:37 PM

Despite leaving something to be desired when it comes to pure role-playing game mechanics, Final Fantasy XVI still grants players the chance to customize Clive by picking different Eikon abilities loadouts and equipping different items.

Among the items that change the character's performance in combat are accessories that grant increased power for Eikon abilities, better healing, reduced cooldown, and so on. One of these accessories, called the Berserker Ring, can spice things up quite a bit by granting Clive access to a new technique, which may be good or bad depending on a lot of different reasons.

What is the Berserk Ring in Final Fantasy XVI?

The Berserker Ring in Final Fantasy XVI is an accessory that can be obtained in the second half of the game once the Renown mechanics have been unlocked. These mechanics reward Clive with Renown every time he completes a quest, and once enough has been obtained, he can get some unique rewards by speaking with Desiree in the Hideaway to access Patron's Whisper. The Berserker Ring can be obtained once at 85 Renown.

What makes the Berserk Ring unique, compared to all the other accessories in the game, is the fact that it changes the Precision Dodge animation, and grants a very short burst of Limit Breaking, meaning that every time you Precision Dodge any attack, you will be able to unleash abilities that are locked behind Limit Break for a short period of time, such as the extended basic combo string, the more powerful Lunge, and Downthrust, and doubled magic attacks. There's a downside to all of this, however, as you will no longer have access to Precision Counter and Precision Counter Shot.

Should You Use the Berserker Ring in Final Fantasy XVI?

Using the Berserker Ring in Final Fantasy XVI is ultimately up to personal preference and playstyle. While being able to access Limit Break-exclusive attacks for a short time is a nice thing to have, being unable to use Precision Counter and Precision Counter Shot can throw you off, especially against enemies with a Stagger bar whose attacks cannot be interrupted. Additionally, the Limit Break combo string changes the timing of Parry slightly, so if you have spent a lot of time in Practice Mode mastering your defensive options, you may need some more practice to get used to this small yet significant change.
