Final Fantasy XV on Xbox One X Runs at Native 3K ‘1800p’ Resolution; Checkerboard Rendered to 4K-November 2024

Final Fantasy XV on Xbox One X won’t run at native 4K, instead it will render at native 1800p (3K) and will then be upscaled to 4K using checkerboard rendering.

Unlike the Xbox One X and PS4 Pro versions of the game, the PC version will support native 4K resolution. That’s what the game’s director, Hajime Tabata, told DualShockers at PAX West.

Native 3K (3072 x 1728 pixels) is the same resolution that the game renders at on “High” performance mode on Sony’s PS4 Pro. This particular mode was introduced for the Pro back in February of this year alongside the “Lite” performance mode. While the “High” mode upgraded the game’s resolution, the mode was criticized for its bad performance. Square Enix and Sony later released a “Stable mode” for the game, which was released to offer a stable framerate.

Final Fantasy XV is available now for PS4 (with PS4 Pro support) and Xbox One. As said, the game will receive a patch to take advantage of the Xbox One X’s additional horsepower.

As announced last month, Final Fantasy XV will also release on PC next year.
