While support for Final Fantasy XV is going to continue this year with new updates and DLC, Hajime Tabata and his team are already working on a new, unnamed project. Not much is known about it at the moment, but it seems like it going to continue what has been started with Final Fantasy XV from a certain point of view.
Speaking with SBS, Hajime Tabata spoke about the team's next project. According to the Final Fantasy XV director, they are focusing on a new game design that will further explore the possibilities of AI and procedural technology.
We are focusing on a new game design that could further explore the possibilities of AI and procedural technology. We are now aware that an entirely different development process is going to be required for a large scale global development project.
Speaking about the development process for the new project, Tabata made it clear that all the elements introduced in Final Fantasy XV will be the basis for it.
We also know how our game engine must evolve in the future. All these elements that we acquired from Final Fantasy XV will form the basis of what we will apply in our next project; which I believe will be a game that only we - with this foundation to draw upon - would be able to accomplish
Lastly, Hajime Tabata also spoke about possible spin-offs, mentioning that an all-female road trip spin-off may be considered if they decide to release other Final Fantasy XV games.
As to an all-female road trip, if we have a chance to roll out some spin-offs, I’ll definitely consider it. Plus, I’d like to know if a lot of fans would have fun with it!
Final Fantasy XV is now out on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It will release on PC this March.
