Been a long time in coming (well, since May '98), but Final Fantasy VIII is on store shelves now in Japan. Preorders for the game had already passed the two million mark prior to the release and is expected to be a big seller for Square. A US version will see the light of day later this year.
For those of you planning to import the game, be warned that there are unconfirmed reports that the game will not work on modified PlayStation consoles. Other rumors suggest that there will soon be a GameShark code to bypass this new software-encoded territorial lockout, but until then, you may not be able to play FF VIII on your modded PS.
On with the screenshots!
